One Big Invisible Pig

I have an invisible pig that I bought from a kid in my first grade class for $1.63. – Nathan Clinard

It was the last of my lunch money. I named him Sparky. We got along great! Once I got home, I introduced him to my parents and my sister. No one was as taken with him as me. Of course, being invisible, they couldn’t see how awesome he was or his twinkly smile.

Sparky investigated the house while Mom made dinner. I didn’t realize just how big a pig he was until he tipped over my sister Susan’s easel and spilled crayons everywhere. It wasn’t me. Honest.

At dinner, of course Sparky was going to sit at the table with us. I’m sure he didn’t mean to spill my milk with his nose. At least he licked it up off the floor.

Dad is wondering where the big dent in the couch came from. I told him it was Sparky. Turns out Sparky likes cooking shows and cartoons, just like me! We’re going to be best friends.

Sparky decided to sleep on the floor. I made sure he had lots of blankets and a pillow. Do all pigs snore?

We were all pretty tired this morning at the breakfast table. Sparky’s snoring was so loud that it set off the car alarm. Six times. He’s a great pig, but ohhhhh! I sure am sleepy.

Sparky came to school with me. My teacher doesn’t understand how all the desks got rearranged, but a pig needs to be comfortable! He also ate my lunch. And the lunches of everyone at my table. Having an invisible pig best friend is a lot harder than I thought.

We managed pretty well until recess when the big invisible pig mowed down a whole line of kids playing Keep Away. Sparky just wanted to win.

The principal called Mom. She was waiting for us on the front steps. She is super mad about Sparky. He’s not allowed in the house. We went around to the back yard and sat down behind the shed. We’re lucky that no one lives behind us, just some farm fields and some cows.

Sparky watched the cows for a long time as we talked about the day. He was worried he was making trouble for me. I told him I loved him. He loves me too. Sparky ruffled my hair and licked my nose. Then with a flick of his curly tail, Sparky leapt the fence and went off to make friends with the cows. Mom will sure be relieved. I wonder how much the invisible cougar is?
