Dressing Up the Yard

I’m a touch behind due to lots of snow, but the winter pots are done and I’ve got the swag on the arbor. Huzzah for winter decorating!

This arbor is a feature in the backyard. I see it from my office window, it greets you when you pull in to the garage, and I’ve managed to create a charming vignette with a Dr. Huey rose. I love to give it a little dress-up for winter.

This year’s swag is smaller and composed of a mix of purchased greens and plant material harvested from the gardens. I’m using Pinky Winky hydrangea flowers in the center, for example.

Working with the myriad textures of evergreen boughs and dries plants gives me great joy. I’m pretty pleased with how this swag has turned out, but the best part?

Battery-powered lights on a timer! Hey, it’s winter. It gets dark at 4pm. These little lights make me ridiculously happy. Embrace the joy of the season!
