Postcards from Winter

December, oh deepest darkest December. And yet I find it full of winter textures as one day it snows and the next it melts. The robins have flown. The cardinals bip along, reclaiming the real estate. Time to fire up the kettle for another cup of tea.

First, it snowed…

And gardeners rejoiced! At last, moisture! And it covered the multitude of November browns, caught in all those perennials you left up, and made you reconsider buying cross country skis.

And then it melted. We are once again plunged into greys and browns and beiges. Perhaps. But no one has told the moss in the local woods, so it’s chugging along, happily green.

This year, two porch pots made sense and I leaned into silvers to reflect the low winter sun and the crispness of frost. How are you using plants from the winter garden?
